Supporting homestay hosts eLearning micro-modules

This eLearning course is designed for a homestay parent or designated caregiver. It consists of three micro-modules that provide helpful tips and tools to assist you with caring for your homestay student. You will learn about the student's cross-border journey, cultural differences and common homestay scenarios. Each micro modules takes approx 10 minutes to complete.

From buddies to ambassadors

Student Ambassadors is an intercultural training programme for students. It can be offered as a stand-alone award for global citizenship leadership or can be adapted for enhancing a current student buddy programme.

Serious and critical incidents: Intercultural dimensions of care

This practical, evidence-based training is designed to enhance the diversity-responsiveness of serious and critical incident practice, particularly in relation to cross-border learners (international students, new settlers, refugee-background learners, etc).

Key learning outcomes:

Ìý1. Intercultural capabilities: Intercultural skills are introduced through an interdisciplinary framework, emphasising the unique stressors faced by international students.

2.ÌýÌýSerious and critical incident practice: Participants will learn strategies for preparing for, responding to, and following up on critical incidents, including provisions for supporting international learner engagement with clinicians.

3.ÌýÌýSelf-care and professional boundaries: The importance of maintaining professional boundaries and self-care is highlighted, along with measures to minimise burnout among frontline staff.

Pedagogy: The training uses a case-based, presentation-workshop approach, drawing on interdisciplinary expertise from the °µÍø½ûÇøÃâ·Ñ°æ Capability Toolkit and collaborations with health professionals and intercultural learning practitioners.

Code Gaps Analysis

For schools, there is an Education Code of Practice expectation of robust review practice and ongoing professional development. With the extensive recruitment of new practitioners following the border reopening, there is, in some cases, a capacity challenge in terms of responding to international learners' unique needs. °µÍø½ûÇøÃâ·Ñ°æ, the only professional body that has been delivering Code-related training for the last twenty years, offers a discrete, independent gaps analysis of your school's engagement with international learners. The analysis will be pragmatic, sensitive to the dynamics of school operations, and offer feasible recommendations that support your programme's intercultural competencies and capacity to offer tailored wraparound support.
